Effective Date: June 12, 2025

GadgetScout understands the importance of your personal privacy. Therefore, we have created this Privacy Policy to explain how we use and disclose your information when you make it available to us. By using or accessing the Websites and the Service, you signify your agreement to be bound by this Privacy Policy. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY, YOU MAY NOT ACCESS OR OTHERWISE USE OUR SERVICE.

Key aspects of our privacy practices described in this Privacy Policy include the following explanations:

  • The information we collect and why we collect it;
  • How we use that information;
  • How we share information; and
  • The choices we offer.

Personally Identifiable Information That We Collect

We may ask you for, or you may voluntarily submit, personally identifiable information when using the Service. The personally identifiable information you may provide could include, but is not limited to:

  • Your full name;
  • Your contact information (including, without limitation, email address and physical address);
  • Your username, profile photo, bio, state, and country;
  • Your IP address; and
  • Other personal information.

Your username, profile photo, bio, state, and country may be displayed publicly to personalize your reviews and profile on the Websites. Your full name and address will not be displayed publicly to other users. We may use your full name for personalized messages from GadgetScout and your address to display product prices from local vendors relevant to your location.

Non-Personal or Aggregate Information That We Collect

When you access our Service, we may automatically collect non-personally identifiable information from you, such as IP host address, web pages viewed, browser type, operating system, referring service, search information, device type, page views, usage and browsing habits on the Service, and similar data. We may also aggregate demographic information collected from our users (such as the number of users in a particular geographical location) in a manner that does not identify any one individual. We may aggregate information collected offline in connection with the Service, obtain non-personally identifiable information from third-party sources, and develop aggregate information by anonymizing previously collected personally identifiable information.

It is possible that when collecting non-personally identifiable information through automatic means, we may unintentionally collect or receive personally identifiable information mixed in with it. While we will make reasonable efforts to prevent such incidental data collection, the possibility still exists. If you believe we have inadvertently collected your personal information, please notify us at support@gadgetscout.net.

Information Usage

We will only use your personally identifiable information as described below, unless you have specifically consented to another type of use, either at the time the information is collected or through some other form of consent or notification:

  • We may use your personally identifiable information to provide and personalize the Service, including displaying local vendor prices, personalizing reviews, and sending tailored communications.
  • We may use your personally identifiable information to respond to your inquiries or requests.
  • We may use your personally identifiable information to send you emails based on your notification preferences, such as review activity notifications, price and stock alerts, blog post updates, community updates, promotional offers, or security and account emails. Security and account emails are required to maintain your account.
  • We may share your personally identifiable information with third-party vendors (collectively, “Third-Party Vendors”) to further the purpose for which you provided such information. For example, we may share your information with Elastic Email for sending emails or with vendors to provide localized pricing data. We urge you to read the privacy practices of all Third-Party Vendors before submitting any personally identifiable information through the Service.
  • We may disclose personally identifiable information as required by law or legal process.
  • We may disclose personally identifiable information to investigate suspected fraud, harassment, or other violations of any law, rule, regulation, or the terms or policies for our Services.
  • We may transfer your personally identifiable information in connection with the sale, merger, or change of control of the entity responsible for the Services with which your information is associated.
  • We may share your personally identifiable information with an affiliate in the same corporate family as long as their privacy practices are substantially similar to ours.

Non-personally identifiable or aggregate information may be used by us for any purposes permitted by law and may be shared with any number of parties, provided that such information does not specifically identify you.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

“Cookies” are pieces of information placed on your computer by a service to facilitate and enhance your interaction with that service. We may use cookies (and similar items such as clear GIFs, web beacons, tags, etc.) on our Service to customize your visit, support your account preferences (e.g., language or color mode), make it more convenient, or enhance our Service. We may also use cookies from third-party service providers, such as analytics providers, to manage and analyze Service usage. Our advertisers and business partners may set cookies on your computer when you use our Service. You may stop or restrict cookies by adjusting your web browser preferences, though this may interfere with some Service functionality, such as maintaining your language or color mode settings. Cookies are not used to automatically retrieve personally identifiable information without your knowledge. If you delete cookies, change browsers, or use a different cookie, you may need to reinput or opt out again.

Analytics and Conversion Tracking

We may use analytics services that employ cookies, JavaScript, and similar technologies to analyze how users use the Service. The information generated (including your IP address or a truncated version) is transmitted to and stored by analytics service providers on their servers. These providers use this information to evaluate your and other users’ use of the Service, compile reports on website activity, and provide other services related to website activity and Internet usage.

For example, we use cookies for Google Analytics (the “Analytics Service”). The Analytics Service helps us understand how visitors engage with our Websites. It collects information anonymously, reporting trends without identifying individuals. You can opt out of Google Analytics without affecting your use of our site by visiting https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. We may also use Google conversion tracking or similar services to understand user interactions with the Service.

Automatically Collected Information

When you access the Service or open our HTML emails, we may automatically record information from your system using cookies and other tracking technologies. This may include your IP address, a unique user ID, device type, device identifiers, browser type and language, referring and exit pages, platform type, software version, system type, content and pages accessed, number of clicks, time spent on pages, dates and times of visits, and similar information. Depending on your country’s laws, your IP address may be considered personally identifiable information.

Security

The security of your personally identifiable information is very important to us. We use reasonable efforts to protect it from unauthorized access when collected online. However, due to the open nature of the Internet, we cannot guarantee complete protection from unauthorized access, such as by hackers, and your use of our Service assumes this risk. We have implemented reasonable physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard your information. Only employees who need access to perform their duties are authorized to access your personally identifiable information. For more information on protecting your privacy, visit www.ftc.gov/privacy.

Your Disclosures in Blogs and Other Social Media

Personally identifiable information you voluntarily share online through the Service, such as in blogs, chat rooms, social media platforms, or public forums (e.g., reviews with your username, profile photo, bio, state, or country), may be viewed and used by others without restrictions. We cannot control such uses, and you assume the risk that such information may be used by third parties for various purposes.

If you log in to the Websites or Service through a third-party service (e.g., Google) or link your GadgetScout account to such services, we may share your posts and associated information (e.g., username, connection origin, usage data) with those services. With your consent, we may also share content you view or your activities on the Service. Once shared, such information is subject to the third party’s privacy policy, not this one.

Protection for Children

We generally do not collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If we plan to do so in the future, we will comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and seek appropriate parental consent where required. If we become aware that we have collected such information without consent, we will use reasonable efforts to delete it from our database.

Other Services

As a convenience, we may provide links to third-party services from within our Service. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these sites. Linking away from our Service is at your own risk.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to change, modify, add, or remove portions of this Privacy Policy at any time. If we plan to use personally identifiable information in a way that materially differs from this policy, including sharing with additional third parties, we will post changes here and provide an opportunity to opt out. Your continued use of the Service following posted changes signifies your acceptance of those changes.

Opt-Out Process

You may customize your notification preferences through the settings page to choose which emails you receive, such as review activity notifications, price and stock alerts, blog post updates, community updates, or promotional offers. You may unsubscribe or opt out of non-essential emails by adjusting your settings or clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of relevant emails. Security and account emails are required and cannot be opted out of to maintain your account. We will process your request within a reasonable time after receipt. However, we are not responsible for removing your information from third-party lists that have previously received it in accordance with this Privacy Policy or your consent. Contact such third parties directly. To update or correct your information, email support@gadgetscout.net, or use the settings page to edit your data, and we will update it within a reasonable time after confirming your information.

By providing your contact information (e.g., email address) to us, you expressly consent to receive communications from us. We may use your contact information to send requested information or information about our products or services, or those of our business partners, based on your notification preferences. We will not share your contact information with third parties for their direct marketing without your consent or as permitted by this Privacy Policy.

By using the Service, you consent to receive in-product communications (e.g., push notifications on the app) based on your notification settings. Any communication or material you send to us by email or otherwise (e.g., data, questions, comments) is non-confidential and nonproprietary, except as covered by this Privacy Policy.
